ACEL Leadership Capability Framework
The ACEL Leadership Capability Framework is a set of capabilities for the complex and exciting entity – educational leadership. The Framework is a learning resource and a learning tool to be used by individuals, teams, schools and systems to:
- Drive leadership strategies including leadership development
- Drive leadership development programs
- Provide leadership skills, attributes, knowledge, understandings and capacity for undertaking whole-school and system-wide improvement processes.
- Address the organisation’s overall picture of leadership in its context, including succession planning
- Assess, identify and develop leadership capabilities
- Determine individual readiness to be involved in formal leadership development programs
- Co-design personalised learning programs for individuals, teams and for organisation/community-wide projects
It focuses on the relationship between leadership and student learning outcomes.
The ACEL Leadership Capability Framework is organised into three leadership growth areas:
- Leads Self for Learning
- Leads Others for Learning
- Leads the Organisation for Learning
The Framework is inclusive of contemporary leadership theory including Strategic Leadership, Transformational Leadership, Educative Leadership and Organisation Wide Leadership and is derived from the belief that Australian education systems and schools need talented, well-qualified, influential educational leaders throughout the organisation and the community.
The Leadership Capability Framework is supported by a concept-based Learning Maps that provides a shared language about leadership. The Framework and Learning Map are designed to be customised by schools and individuals and will be continuously evaluated for relevance, usability and validity.
