The ACEL Leadership Capability Framework© is a learning resource that sets out the capabilities educational leaders need for effective and successful practice.

The Australian Council for Educational Leaders’ (ACEL) Leadership Capability Framework© and the accompanying ACEL Leadership Capability Learning Maps© take leadership development from being a simplistic, context-free model based on competency, to a capability-based model that respects the complexity of leadership and the contexts in which people work.

In addition to the two guiding documents this portal also recommends a range of resources specially-tailored to your needs. Once you log in to the portal it is advised you do the ACEL leadership online diagnostic first. The results of your assessment will guide you in your leadership development.

 Personalised Learning Plan and Learning Modules

Along with the self-directed online learning materials, ACEL can deliver a program of workshops by accredited coaches who can assist in the interpretation of the Self-Assessment and the development of a learning plan to achieve effective development.   In a series of face-to-face modules the coach will assist in the development of a learning culture in leadership teams, group responsiblity and peer-directed achievement.

Module I - Introduction to the ACEL Leadership Capability Framework

Duration: two hours

This module introduces participants to the ACEL Leadership Learning program.  The aim is to build a comprehensive undestanding of the ACEL Leadership Capability Framework, Learning Maps and associated resources by demonstrating:

 - access to the ACEL Leadership Strategy online to view results, resources and learning portal

 - use of the learning maps to set iSMART personal learning goals that build on strengths abd stretch forward

 - creation of action learning project that aligns personal learning goals with school's strategic priorities.

 - establish peer coaching partnerships to provide support for one another's journey, continue the learning between sessions and practice the principals of peer coaching.

Module II - Self Awareness and Renewal and Resilience

Duration: two hours

These two elements kick off the leadership journey as part of the first capability Creates Personal Identity under the pillar Leads Self for Learning.  Focuses on concepts of values and beliefs, self knowledge, managing pressure and stress and recovery from difficult situations - 'bouncing back'.

Module III - Skilful Communication and Feedback

Duration: two hours

These two elements are from the capability Communicates for Learning Improvement under the growth pillar Leads Others for Learning. The module explores the concepts of c ongruent language, working with others to build skillful ways of talking together, an agreed common language around vision, values and learning as well as developing the capacity of others to provide feedback.

Module IV - Setting Vision and Strategy and Systems Thinking Part I. 

Duration: two hours

The first of a two part module that explores two elements from the capability Acts Strategically under the growth pillar Leads the Organisation for Learning.  The module focuses on the concepts of linking relationships functions and activities in organisation, understanding the need for big picture thinking, engaging all stakeholders in decisions, applying organisational values and practices and sustainable leadership.

Module V - Setting Vision and Strategy and Systems Thinking Part II

Duration: two hours

The second of the two part module, focussing on the following concepts: developing goals and strategies to support the vision, from vision to strategy, from strategy to actions and actions aligned with hopes, dreams and aspirations.

Module VI - Culture and Change

Duration: two hours  

This element from the capability Provides Opportunities for Innovation under the Growth Pillar Leads the Organisation for Learning.  The module explores the concepts of leading and managing change, considering the processes of change, and identifying the key elements of successful change initiatives such  as collaboration and cooporation for change, active involvement, democratic values and a strategic approach to implementation.
